Home & Abroad by The Style Council
Released: Jun 2007
Label: Decca International
The collective memory on the Style Council is that they were a synth-driven '80s hair band, when in actuality they were a retro soul/jazz-inflected pop group who played old-fashioned instruments like guitars, pianos and conga drums. They were also a high-energy live act, as a listen to Home and Abroad will show. While the band often changed their songs in concert, these stick pretty close to the studio versions, though the protest ballad "The Whole Point" gets expanded here. Organist Mick Talbot takes center stage on "Homebreakers" and the instrumental "Our Favourite Shop."
