Rebels of Babylon
The Time Flys
Released:
Jan 2007
Label:
Birdman Records
With an album cover that looks as painstakingly posed and tried as this one, it would be way too easy to pan Oakland's Time Flys as a band of posturing hipsters - especially if you've never checked out some semi-obscure, 1970s punk rock recordings by more influential bands like the Wipers, the Zeros, the Real Kids or the Gizmos. Not that you need to be well versed in trendy reissued vinyl to know where they're coming from, but if infectious songs like the anti-hesh anthem "Stoner Rock" or the herky-jerky boogie of "Lil' L.A." don't make you laugh and move, you're not listening objectively.
