Copying Joy Division isn't a new phenomenon by any means. Bands started doing that almost immediately after Ian Curtis left to join the choir invisible. Hear, for instance, this 1982 debut from Scotland's the Wake. Their post-punk airiness is punctuated by much more jangle and overall pop sounds, but the stark austerity and bass leads are immediately recognizable.
