Nite Flights
The Walker Brothers
Released:
Jul 1978
Label:
Columbia
GTO Records was going bust, so Scott Walker used the final Walker Brothers album as an opportunity to explore a startling new direction in rock/synth/pop music. Nite Flights is cited along with Bowie's Low and Iggy's The Idiot as laying the foundation for post-punk with its avant-garde-leaning, non-dance rhythms, ugly guitars and saxophones. The title track could've been a hit single if it was released a few years later, and the disturbing "The Electrician" may have been a key source of inspiration for every lonely British boy who went out and bought a synthesizer.
