The Youngbloods never made a classic album like the Lovin' Spoonful and Jefferson Airplane. But they did, between 1967 and '71, rack up a number of minor gems in an array of styles, not just folk-rock. Organ-dominated ditties like "Don't Play Games" and "Dreamer's Dream" recall the moody, British Invasion pop of the Zombies, while "Sugar Babe" is pastoral perfection, California-style. The Youngbloods even cross-pollinated Brit folk and acid fuzz on the awesome "Darkness, Darkness." Good stuff.
