Tired Of Hanging Around
The Zutons
Released:
Sep 2006
Label:
Columbia
Out of the swamp and onto the blacktop: the Zutons' sophomore album is less N'awlins gumbo funk and more classic FM swagger. "Valerie," in fact, sounds like an outtake of Rod Stewart's early-'70s, big blues balladry, with a warm, guitar-led chorus backed by smoky saxophone, handclaps and "woo-ooh" vocals. "Oh Stacey" -- the other femme fatale-themed track -- runs with a similar dated and faded feel. Hanging Around doesn't burst with the originality of the Zutons' debut, but its well-worn familiarity makes for a comfy listen.
