Seven albums and over a decade into their convoluted career, these Swedish art-thrashers start taking major clues from Celtic Frost (whose To Mega Therion had inspired their name) on this 1988 monument: morose and ungodly ornate music incorporating female opera divas, classical piano and string orchestras, Middle Eastern melodies, open space, Wiccan rituals and lyrics about Venus, Aphrodite, Shiva, ravens, Sodom and Gomorrah, and being hunted by gargoyles through a labyrinth as hellhounds bark and owls hoot.
