Mass for Four Voices / Motets
Released: Oct 1993
This 16th century English composer, teacher to William Byrd and organist for Henry VIII and others wrote liturgical music in both Latin and in the vernacular over the course of his lifetime. His style was in part a response to the political and religious struggle occurring in England. As he survived the turmoil, his music became less imitative and less melismatic.
