Biography
A leading church composer and gifted madrigalist, Thomas Weelkes (1576-1623) is known for his dazzling contrapuntal technique and imaginative imagery. His career was impeded at times by a notorious drinking problem, and after being temporarily dismissed from his post at Chichester Cathedral in 1617 for being drunk at the organ and cursing during service, he spent much of his time in London.
