Tift Merritt withdrew from the spotlight that accompanied her 2004 Grammy nod for Tambourine and holed up alone in a French apartment to write her third LP. The result is less barn-burning soul-time swagger and more intimacy, treated to the typical warmth of producer George Drakoulias and some brilliant session work by Doug Pettibone (sideman to Lucinda Williams) and Charlie Sexton (longtime bandmate of Dylan).
