Till Bronner isn't a household name in America, but his cool-toned trumpet and vocal style hold sway in Continental Europe. Like Chris Botti, Bronner brings a streamlined old school feel to smooth jazz, though whereas Botti likes to stick to ballads, Bronner has more of a dreamy post-bop feel. He kicks things up a notch on the opener, a bright cover of Wes Montgomery's '60s hit "Bumpin'," then plays "The Peacocks," a ballad long associated with Stan Getz. Guest vocalist Madeleine Peyroux simmers through "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," while Carla Bruni brings new elements out of Leonard Cohen's "In My Secret Life."
