Sure, they're Jersey boys with a Springsteen thing going on, but Titus Andronicus have a lot more existential angst simmering in their stew of minimalist rock. Their third release opens with main man Patrick Stickles cranking his splintering vocals to an 11 on the punk scale: "OK, I think by now we've established everything is inherently worthless," he growls. It doesn't get much brighter from there -- except for maybe silly pub rocker "Food Fight!" -- as Stickles opens up about his eating disorder, being "a drop in a deluge of hipsters" (on highlight "In a Big City"), and going insane.
