Webb's second album sounds like the product of a guy who spent his teenage years obsessively listening to the Gibson Brothers' underground blues-punk classic Big Pine Boogie (do track it down). Although KCK isn't quite as overtly lo-fi and retro, it evokes the smell of booze-soaked juke joints with knotty pine floors on the other side of the tracks. That means it's pretty darn good, but only "Time Marching On" really hints at the murky soul Webb would unload on his next album, Phantom Parade.
