Black Moth Super Rainbow main man Tobacco calls his third album his "pop" record, and while you won't hear anything like this on commercial radio, he's got a point. The bruised, lo-fi sound of previous albums has swelled into a fuller, richer amalgam of overdriven synthesizers, battered drum loops and guitars that sound like they've swallowed kazoos. But there are hooks and choruses aplenty; tunes like "New Juices From the Hot Tub Freaks" move with honest-to-goodness funk. Falling somewhere between L.A. electro-boogie and noise rock, Tobacco sates a craving you didn't know you had.
