An accomplished guitarist, Tom Heyman fronted the wild Roots band Go To Blazes, played in the twangy but pop-fueled Map of Wyoming and lends atmospheric pedal steel support to the otherworldly Court & Spark. While these acts already prove Heyman's an Americana renaissance man, his solo work displays his songwriting talents. Heyman writes tarnished, workin' and drinkin' man narratives and delivers them in a voice that evokes Johnny Cash being punished for all of our sins. And he wraps them in sheets of guitars. A must for fans of Steve Earle and Joe Henry, but anyone who has ever traveled down one of Tom Petty's darker byways will want to stop in for a drink.
