By their third album, Traffic had established a reputation as fierce -- if indulgent -- purveyors of footloose, freestyle acid rock often as gentle and folksy as it was funk-fueled and groovy. JBMD found bandleader Steve Winwood again pooling his influences and splashing through them vigorously. From the Motownish R&B of "Glad" to the countryside troubadouring of "John Barleycorn," Winwood's piano and organ are buoyed by Chris Wood's sax and flute. It's easy to see how Traffic is one of the primary influences of the jam band scene of the early '00s.
