Last Exit
Traffic
Released:
Jan 1969
Label:
Island Records
Offering a similar type of pastoral prog as Jethro Tull, and at around the same era, Traffic's third album contains some of Steve Winwood's most quirky and memorable songwriting. The opening two-thirds of Last Exit are all loosey-goosey, funkified Ren Faire rock; titles like "Shanghai Noodle Factory" and "Medicated Goo" hint at the lysergic playfulness of the tunes. The last two tracks are taken live from a 1968 live set at San Francisco's Fillmore West and are considerably darker, bluesier, and longer.
