Young Prettyman shows a good deal of old soul on her second LP, writing a set of tunes that mostly run circles 'round the other ladies in line to lather Jack Johnson with sunblock. The acoustic slide guitar and blues inflection of "California Girl" and many of the other dusky ballads recall Ben Harper's Welcome to the Cruel World, and such tracks turn out better than when she tries a Colbie cookie-cutter approach on tunes like "Madly."
