Folktronica is an ugly word, and 'experimental folk' sounds too twee to be taken seriously, so how to explain the pastoral, pretty and yet faintly malevolent sound from this UK sextet? Fans of Belle and Sebastian will find much to like here, in that the tunes are ostensibly pretty, plinky, ducks n' bunnies numbers, but the lyrical content seethes and simmers with dark doings and general badness. "Bullets" best expresses this contrast -- the tune is music hall knees-up, but the libretto is a gory war protest, complete with machine gun sound effects for added authenticity.
