Singer-songwriter Turner Cody is down with New York's anti-folk scene, yet his music is so much more than that. In fact, First Light is the work of an artist who knows his American folk history inside and out, from jug-band music to country folk. He also exhibits a love for vintage parlor music and Tin Pan Alley pop. This makes Cody much more of a classicist than a rebel. It also makes First Light an engaging listen, full of great tunes, quirky lyrics and utterly hummable melodies. Good stuff.
