It's the attitude that separates Tusk from Pelican, the day job for the band's core members (guitarists Trevor de Brauw and Laurent Lebec and bassist Larry Herweg). Where Pelican unfurl large swaths of tightly woven metal instrumentals, Tusk make a looser, grittier doom metal that's colored with seething angst -- and features two Beelzebub sound-alike vocalists (Evan Patterson of Young Widows and Toby Driver of Kayo Dot). "The Everlasting Taste of Disguise" has a blistering riff that would cause a pencil-pushing geek to feel like a badass, while "Life's Denial" looms in a dismal abyss.
