Cold Fish (EP)

Aug 2009

Biography

TV Ghost -- named, it's said, for a disconcerting, shadow-like glitch particular to analog television broadcasts -- spookily emerged in 2006, straight out of Axl Rose's hometown of Lafayette, Indiana. Early vinyl came out on the neo-goth-leaning Die Stasi label. Their first album, 2009's Cold Fish -- a short one, at 25 minutes -- drew comparisons to bands ranging from The Cramps and Scientists to Drive Like Jehu and Arab on Radar. Half of the record's 10 song titles followed the word "The" with a noun: "The Consumption," "The Drunkard," "The Singularity," and so on; all the songs except the closing title track checked in under three minutes. The band stretched out more on the follow-up, 2011's Mass Dream (on In the Red Records, like its predecessor), with five of 11 songs exceeding four minutes each, and the longest -- again, the title cut -- once more saved for the end. The band's mastermind is clearly a guy named Tim Glick, who sings and plays guitar; full-time keyboardist and part-time drummer Brahne Hoeft has been the only other constant. Otherwise, TV Ghost's lineup has been amended several times in just the band's first half-decade of existence.
