It's telling that Two Gallants' third LP is their first that's self-titled. Whereas the duo's work to date has smartly stitched together roughshod elements of blues and indie rock, the wiry synergy of "Miss Meri" and "Despite What You've Been Told" seems to be propelled by its own definition. More remarkable though, is the band's capacity to gracefully downshift into arching, unapologetic ballads like "Trembling of the Rose" and the traditional "Fly Low Carrion Crow," both of which stand among the record's best.
