Where Did the Night Fall (Deluxe Edition)
Released: May 2010
Label: Surrender All Ltd/RED
Twelve years after his first LP, James Lavelle's fourth album with UNKLE finds the trip-hop impresario sounding as moody as ever. The record sticks to his mid-tempo comfort zone, with subtle electronic detailing atop brooding rock songs, adding a modern patina to a classic alt-rock sound. UNKLE's not trying to be groundbreaking -- "On a Wire" is unsubtle about its debt to the Cure's "A Forest" -- and the guest vocalists don't bring much in the way of individual character. But if you're in the mood for something moody, UNKLE's search for night fits the bill.
