These snazzy Chicago dressers had already toned down their rowdier impulses back on 1995's Exit The Dragon, and their rhythm section is new, so it's no surprise that their first album in 16 years is also their most laid-back ever. But hard-pop riffs and fuzzy fills are still plentiful, if not always sustained. The Southern-rockish road tune "She's My Ride" has the most "Sister Havana"-worthy churn and crunch. Melodies are convoluted but comely, and the sleepy sunset harmonies perk up often enough to grab you with tales of Carolina heartache and references to Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree.
