The ESL imprimatur suggests a '60s-inspired sense of the cool, as viewed through the lens of the 21st century globe-trotter, and that's precisely what Ursula 1000 brings once again. Big beats, funk licks and vocoders collide with '60s organs and drums, giving contemporary electronics a touch of studio grit. "Do It Right" is pumping house of the funky variety, while "Star Machine" fuses updates acid with fidgety touches (and a big, steaming helping of slap bass). Ursula 1000 is good at being goofy, but he's best on "Tension," where the energy matches his imagination.
