Mexican singer Valentin Elizalde was shot down after a concert in 2006, presumably by drug cartel goons, and he's often remembered for his ballsy narcocorridos. But this two-volume set is a reminder that Elizalde, only 27 when he died, loved his party music: Just check out "Como Me Duele." Elizalde did not have the greatest voice, as "Soy Asi" demonstrates. But his charisma is clear on sing-along favorites like "Te Quiero Asi." "Lobo Domesticado," a nortena penned by hit-maker Joan Sebastian and released posthumously, suggests that Elizalde had the makings of a pop star.
