by Van Halen
Released: Jan 2012
Not only is "Tattoo" Van Halen's first slice of new music since 1998's Van Halen III, it's the first recording to feature wild man David Lee Roth since the iconic 1984 album. Then again, the concept "new" comes with a few qualifications in this instance. The tune is more or less a rewrite of "Down in Flames," a song the group played frequently on their 1978 world tour. Because of this, the song has a kind of old school flavor, albeit one that's wrapped inside production that's totally modern. Interesting to note: The backing vocals sound more like Queen than vintage Van Halen. Go figure.
