Heaven And Hell
Released: Mar 1975
Label: Windham Hill Records
Before becoming one of new age's more prolific composers of electronic-ambient music, Vangelis was a fiery prog-rock keyboardist sharing far more in common with Goblin and Yes (whom he nearly joined) than Tangerine Dream and Phillip Glass. Split into two extended parts, Heaven and Hell is pure bombast, featuring a fat stack of synthesizers, piercing strings and operatic voices soaring across the sky. If this album is in any way a reflection of Vangelis' soul then he's one tormented Greek.
