Variable Unit

A coalition of Bay Area musicians, Variable Unit flaunt a diverse, genre-bending style that is difficult to describe and hard not to like. Their members include Matt Montgomery (bass), Gregory Howe (guitar, percussion, producer), Kat Ouano (keys), Jacob Elijah Aginsky (organ, synths), and DJ Zeph on the turntables. Their overall vibe is a mellow, head-nodding fusion of hip-hop, funk, soul-jazz, and chill electronics. The group has also collaborated with local emcee Azeem, Ron E. Beck (drummer from Tower Of Power), and many others. Based on the Wide Hive label, VU's releases include Seven Grain, Handbook For The Apocalypse, Cold Flow and Mahemystics.
