The score to this 2010 "OMG, I have to cut off my own arm with a dull blade!" movie is by Bollywood master A.R. Rahman. The Indian composer's work here is often spare, atmospheric and Western but is striking in its diversity: neo-classical, acoustic guitar, electro (Rahman avoids the cliches -- or stereotypes -- of Indian film music). The pop songs are also something: a gorgeous club jazz vocal from Esther Phillips, a catchy tune from NYC hipsters Free Blood, a beauty from Sigur Ros, Bill Withers' life-embracing "Lovely Day" and the uplifting Plastic Bertrand punk classic "Ca Plane Pour Moi."
