Capturing the four-decade career of Eric Clapton in a two-disc, 36-track set is no easy task, and though this compilation is just another greatest hits package for Slowhand's devoted, it provides a tidy summation of his singles and a good overview of his impressive career arc. The romp though his early work and late solo material is crowned, of course, by that strident outro of "Layla."
