This collection features Congolese musicians whose punk rock spirit would put Blink-182 to shame: they hooked up the likembe (aka the mbira) to homemade pickups, and the resulting combination of hypnotic music and soul-deranging distortion has understandably made them darlings of the indie rock scene. For all its gorgeous corrosion, the music is also strangely catchy.
