This great and accessible compilation highlights the '80s building blocks of the dancehall movement. You should be familiar with Shabba Ranks and Super Cat, and El' General's excellent "Pun Tun Tun" is an early reggaeton prototype. Be sure to check out Super Beagle and Sister Nancy's sublime reworking of Winston Riley's Stalag riddim. The latter version, "Bam Bam," is particularly appealing, and should be required listening for fan's of Island music.
