Released:
Label: !K7 Records
Since 1995, K7's DJ-Kicks series has invited DJs from Carl Craig to Kode9 to record mixes that veer beyond standard club norms. Traditionally, every DJ creates a new track for the mix as well, giving the series a sideline in A&R. Covering the past six years of bespoke cuts, the comp sketches an interesting picture of indie-dance evolution across songs from Apparat, Scuba, Hot Chip and other crossover specialists. Submissions from Holden, the Juan MacLean and Motor City Drum Ensemble stand out, as does Four Tet's "Pockets," a 2006 song that maps the route he'd continue to take.
