New York-based composer Beata Moon organized this album of pieces for quartets, a wind quintet, and solo instrumentalists with the sense that they could be one longer piece. Her miniature, self-contained works for acoustic instruments don't so much move beyond academicism, serialism and extreme dissonance as learn from their histories while moving on in sound. While the work with the Corigliano Quartet is fantastic (see "Suspended"), it is really Moon's own piano playing that dazzles in this album.
