Partnering with the legendary Fania Records, John Leguizamo curated a soundtrack to his one-man Broadway show that also offers loving homage to the vibrant new world of salsa in New York in the 1960s and '70s. The comedian has excellent taste (not to mention, an amazing archive at his disposal). All the greats are here: regal Celia Cruz, silver-tongued Ruben Blades, vivacious Willie Colon, dramatic La Lupe. The recordings aren't new, but hearing them as part of Leguizamo's attempt to sketch out a particular time and place in history vividly fleshes out one of music's most exhilarating moments.
