Before Garden State there was Half-Cocked, a slacker road-trip story set in the Midwest. Initially released in '94, this was a real DIY film with a real DIY soundtrack -- sloppy and lo-fi. In fact, if you want to learn what indie rock was all about in the mid-'90s, it's all right here: Unwound, Slant 6, Polvo, Rodan, and the Grifters as well as the insanely underappreciated Crain, who were up there with the likes of Drive Like Jehu and Bitch Magnet. Best song? Freakwater's "Drunk Friend," of course.
