Good compilations of female tango singers have been thin on the ground and scarce in the air until now. Suramusic show a sure hand in their choice of singers for this modern comp, picking (for the most part) women who can anchor a song with a roughness and melancholy that English-language vocalists seem almost physiologically incapable of. Of the pack, Cristina Banegas and Mimi Kozlowski stand out, but the queen of the genre is indisputably Adriana Varela, who sounds like she's got a carton of cigarettes and a gallon of Black Bush at her side every time she gets near a microphone.
