Miami Beach just inaugurated their (slightly misnamed) Latin Funk Festival in 2004, and this 2005 compilation proves they're already onto something. Latin music usually runs hot, but these acts distinguish themselves by turning down the heat without losing flavor. Suenalo Sound System's mix of acid jazz, Latin rap and salsa simmers without ever boiling, while Pacha's dreamy atmospherics would be at home in any chill-space. A great introduction to bands you haven't heard but should.
