Reading the cover, one might dismiss this collection as a copout set of rehashed hymns. While it could have benefited from a few original numbers, how this group of artists handles these eternal melodies is worth the trip. Must-hears include Marty Stuart's moody bluegrass during his "Rock of Ages" collaboration with David Crowder and the soulful gospel of Avalon on "Great is Thy Faithfulness." The harmonies and passions that carry the second half of the song are worth the entire album. Plus, there's magic in the story behind Chris Tomlin's new addition to standard "Amazing Grace," the inspired bridge pegged as the theme to the corresponding motion picture.
