Only 4 U: The Sound Of Cajmere & Cajual Records 1992-2012
by Various Artists
Having begun his career in 1991, Curtis A. Jones belongs to Chicago house music's second wave, but he gave the world as many scene-defining anthems as virtually any of his predecessors or peers. This overview of his Cajual label largely ignores the more unhinged output of his Green Velvet alias, but it offers an essential selection of his stark, soulful productions as Cajmere, from piano-laden anthems like "Brighter Days" to his later, Prince-inspired synth funk. Cuts from Johnny Fiasco, Gemini and other Cajual signees round out the comp; Adam's wobbly "Moments in Time" is unmissable.
