If you like lilting French horns and legato strings at your picnic, then this is the summer compilation for you. Sony's star recordings make sure that this outdoor standard fare is at least gourmet: George Szell's Mendelssohn is a long cool drink of lemonade and Puccini's "Crisantemi," one of the composer's few instrumental works, is a surprisingly good side dish. The only questionable item at the feast is Sony's pick of interpretations for "Summertime." Avoid it like the potato salad.
