This collection comprises the four best incarnations of space-rock gods Hawkwind. Hawkwind Zoo's '60s approach blended psychedelic jams with jug-band instruments and hints of Brit folk. The early Hawkwind demos sound both retro and futuristic, and "Motorhead" makes you wonder why they kicked Lemmy out (oh yeah, speed). The Sonic Assassins demos boast early experimentation with analog synthesizers. Hawklords hold the clearest-sounding songs here as pounding, rock 'n' roll mantras mix with intergalactic Moogs and Vox organ drones that influenced the likes of Spacemen 3 and beyond.
