Stax/Volt - The Complete Singles 1959-1968 - Volume 5 by Various Artists
Released: Mar 2007
Label: Rhino Atlantic
Volume 5 of the gigantic Stax/Volt Complete Singles collection captures the label during its '65/'66 prime. The songwriting team of Isaac Hayes and David Porter had come on board, and the house band Booker T. and the MGs had really hit its stride. The Hayes/ Porter-penned track "Hold On, I'm Coming" was a monster for Sam & Dave. Eddie Floyd was introduced on "Things Get Better," and Otis Redding had one of his biggest singles to date with "I Can't Turn You Loose," which would later become the entrance music for fictional group the Blues Brothers.
