On paper, mixing swing classics by Bing Crosby and Django Reinhardt with newly recorded tracks by Louden Wainwright sounds like a bad idea, but Scorsese's Howard Hughes sized musical gamble pays off nicely. The heart of the movie's eccentric-genius-goes-bonkers plot is beautifully realized, with Benny Goodman's "Moonglow" turning into Artie Shaw's "Nightmare."
