The modern soundtrack is oftentimes more of a marketing ploy than a cohesive musical statement, typically comprised of disparate singles that never actually appear in the movie. There are exceptions -- Hustle and Flow springs to mind -- but this is not one of them. Hardened hip-hop bubble-gum slinger Yung Joc represents for the south; Ghostface Killah and Redman for NYC; and Ice Cube and Lil' Eazy E for the west. The Ice Cube and Redman songs are pretty hot, and while the disc may be stylistically and thematically scattered, it's also consistently engaging.
