Waxing Off: Delicious Vinyl's Greatest Hits
Various Artists
Released:
Jul 2001
Label:
Delicious Vinyl
The story of record label Delicious Vinyl is one of rags to riches to respect -- and then back to rags. The label made a name with late-'80s novelty hits by Tone Loc ("Wild Thing") and Young MC ("Bust a Move") before bursting out of that pocket in the mid-'90s with "quality" releases by Cali indie hip-hoppers the Pharcyde and Juice Crew emcee Masta Ace. Though the label has been largely absent during the past decade (save for the occasional disc from Left Coast old dirty rapper Fat Lip), it leaves behind one of the richest catalogs in independent hip-hop.
