Varrtina was an established world music force by the time Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains released their seventh album, Vihma, on his Wicklow Records in 1998. But there's nothing mechanical here: the group continues to experiment, bringing in Tuvan throat singers Yat-Kha and champion Finnish fiddlers JPP to embellish the force of nature that is their lead singers.
