Jazz Impressions Of Black Orpheus
Released: Apr 1962
San Francisco's Fantasy Records had already hit the jazz payload when Dave Brubeck and Cal Tjader became surprise best sellers for them. Then came Vince Guaraldi. He first recorded for the label as Tjader's pianist before striking out on his own. Guaraldi was finding increasing success with each of his solo recordings when this 1962 set started taking off and ended up being one the biggest jazz hits of the decade. Highlights include the smash single "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" (which is still widely heard today) and Guaraldi's boppish and breezy take on the bossa nova songs from the movie Black Orpheus.
